Immunotherapy

What is Immunotherapy?

tcmImmunotherapy, also known as target therapy or biotherapy, is a promising new kidney disease treatment that stimulates a patient's immune system so it is better able to fight disease.

cycle therapy

The concept of this therapy is based on the body's natural defense system, which protects us against a variety of diseases. Although we are less aware of it, the immune system also works to aid our recovery from many illnesses.

Back To TopHow does the immune system work?

The immune system is the system of specialized cells and organs that protect an organism from outside biological influences. The system is divided into two major branches: the innate immune system and the back-up system. Most people have a powerful innate immune system which can protect people from being affected by illnesses. Besides, in order to make sure the safety of innate immune system, the body also has a back-up system.

In general, a disease occurs when:

•The amount of invaders exceeds the immune system's ability to remove them;

•Although foreign bodies do not increase, the removal ability of the innate immune system declines abnormally, resulting in ineffective clearance of foreign bodies.

In either of the above cases, people will get diseases due to the innate immune system's maladaptation. Then, what will happen if there is disorder of innate immune system? In this condition, the back-up system will be activated in order to help fight against diseases.

After a period of time, the pathological foreign substances will be cleared up completely by the combined action of the innate immune system and back-up system, so people can regain health. Then, the back-up system will stop working and the innate immune system starts to function alone.

Back To TopWhat causes kidney disease?

Kidney disease refers to a series of renal pathological changes caused by the damages of renal intrinsic cells and tissues. Most kidney diseases (more than 95%) occur due to the abnormality of the immune system.

▪According to the above mechanism of the innate immune system and back-up system, we can know that two premises are necessary in order to guarantee the normal function of the immune system:

•If the innate immune system does not become disordered, the adaptive immune system will not be initiated.

•If the adaptive immune system does not become disordered, it will stop working immediately after they have finished the task of emergency reaction.

So, we can conclude the cause of kidney disease as below:

•When there is disorder of the innate immune system, it will release messages to activate the adaptive immune system continuously, thus making the adaptive immune system work endlessly and leading to excessive immune response.

•When the adaptive immune system become disordered, it loses self-control ability, causing the adaptive immune system to work endlessly.

The endless immune inflammatory response not only fails to clear up the pathological foreign substances out of body, but also damages the healthy cells and tissues of the body. This excess immune inflammatory response is termed as hypersensitivity reaction. If the hypersensitivity reaction occurs in other organs and tissues, immune diseases in these organs and tissues can be caused. When the hypersensitivity reaction occurs in kidneys, immune kidney diseases can be caused.

How to treat kidney disease with Immunotherapy?

Generally, the systemic treatment procedure may include the following six steps:

1. An accurate diagnosis

A comprehensive and systematic diagnosis and evaluation for each patient can guarantee the best curative effect. Apart from common tests, specific examinations such as Series of Complement Tests, Hematuria position, Series of Kidney Damage Tests, Lymphocyte Subsets Test, Uremic Toxins Tests of Kidney Disease, etc can help us make a more accurate diagnosis of patients' personalized disease condition.

2. Immune blocking

More than 95% of kidney diseases occur due to the abnormality of the immune system and most of them are induced by excess immune response, so it is necessary to rapidly inhibit the immune inflammatory response, make the abnormal inflammatory reaction disappear quickly, and stop the abnormal damage of renal intrinsic cells.

An precise diagnosis can help us make both the type of immune reactions and the sedimentary location of immune complex clear. Then, the newest immunosuppressive drugs are applied to help us achieve the purpose of immune blocking with low side effects.

3. Immune clearance

According to the patient's individualized condition, immune clearance technologies including immunoadsorption, plasma exchange, hemoperfusion, hemofiltration, blood fat purification, cell removal technique and so on are used to help patients eliminate the toxins in the blood effectively. All these methods are not just guarantee techniques but also treatments. They are the indispensable treatments for immune kidney diseases.

4. Immune tolerance
